How long will it take to install a solar heating system?
Depending on the size and complexity of the system, and the number of plumbers / engineers carrying out the work, it would normally take between two & four days. This also relies on there being no unforeseen hurdles, and good weather when working on the roof!

How is the solar option helping the environment?
By investing in a solar energy application you will have an immediate positive impact on the production of greenhouse gases which are the cause of greatest concern in terms of global warming. Yours would be a very worthwhile contribution to prolonging the reserves of fossil fuels and would significantly help to reduce CO2 emissions.

What is the extent of the routine maintenance involved?
As with other features of your heating / plumbing system, some small maintenance checks are periodically required. If yours is a pressurised system it will be necessary to check that it remains at the recommended level. Adjustment is usually very simple. An annual 'top up' of the inhibitor and anti-freeze in a sealed or open vented system is a worthwhile investment to prolong the lifetime of your investment.

Can it be modified or relocated at a later date?
Certainly - additional panels can be added to accommodate increased hot water consumption, pipe work can be re-routed to suit building alterations, components ca can be replaced easily as new improved ones or innovations become available...

Are swimming pools suitable for heating by solar ?
Certainly - it is highly effective. It's likely that the time 'in the pool' corresponds exactly with the period of maximum solar collector efficiency. Installation is straightforward too.

Would a solar installation be covered by my home insurance?
Yes - as long as you notify your insurance company once it's been installed. The system actually adds value to your property, of course! It becomes part of the fabric of the building and needs to be covered for damage - especially as the water pipes it contains would have to be repaired by an engineer on call-out in the event of an emergency! Always ensure the system is installed by a reputable fitter.
