The Corn Mill - a
brief history
I am the
latest in a long line of proud owners to have discovered the peace &
tranquillity of The Corn Mill. It now has been given a new lease of
life as a state-of the-art recording studio, located in the heart of the
rural Cornish countryside...
It is a 16th century
Grade II, thatched, Listed Building. It is mentioned in the Domesday Book
of 1086 and there has been a Mill on this site at Roseworthy for almost a 1000 years.
The present building, built of 2' thick cob, has been extended
since it’s earliest days. The deeds mention Roseworthy and The Olde
Corn Mill in 1488, so it was old even then! The Mill is served
with a private water supply, and the old water wheel is always turning in
the winter when the rains return. The large open log
fire is a joy in the colder weather and especially at Christmas!
This was a fully working Corn Mill grinding corn for the area until after World War
II when it fell into disrepair. Some of the machine housing still
stands, and rusting gears and pipes show through the ivy as a reminder of
past times and previous technology. What would they think of its current use, I wonder?
In recent
years the Corn Mill has been completely rewired and re-thatched adding
to the quality and comfort of any visiting musicians...

The
recording area is housed in the modern sun lounge extension built in
1980 by Norman Coburn of 'Home and Away' fame, the long running
Australian soap program now on Channel 5. Although he no longer stars in
the series, he lived here before moving
back to Australia to star in the show in the 80's.
